The DUCA Team Project is the cornerstone of the Drexel University Computing Academy
academic experience. It’s also the part of the program that affords students the
most freedom and control over their success. Every DUCA student is required to participate
in a project team.
EXAMPLES OF 2011 DUCA PROJECT SUMMARIES
Digital Media
Students will utilize industry-standard content development tools to create a single-player
game of their design. The interface of the game will allow for play on either the
PC using the keyboard or mobile platforms using multi-touch capabilities.
Mobile Application Development
Students will work as a team to design, implement and test a software application
which will run on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Development will be done on
Apple Macintoshes in Objective-C, using the xCode development environment with the
iPhone SDK.
Web Based Application
The web based application project will introduce students to the different areas
represented in the full software development life cycle. Our focus will be on a
social networking theme that ties into the local community. The end goal is to have
a small working website/web application; but through the project, students will
explore the various underlying technologies required to develop the website/web
application.
Simulation and High Performance Computing
Much of modern engineering design and scientific exploration requires extensive
computation. Computers are used to simulate the behavior of different designs allowing
an engineer to explore design tradeoffs before actually building the device. In
order to understand and visualize the results of such simulations, computer images
and animations are generated and tools are used to view and analyze the resulting
data. Related tools are used to generate realistic images in movies and computer
games.
